Message from the CEO: What it Means to be a Member
Over 100 million people in the United States are members of a credit union. But what does it actually mean to be a member?
As a credit union member, you are a part-owner of that institution. You can take comfort in knowing that you are banking with a financial institution that exists to serve you and your community, not a group of stockholders.
At South Carolina Federal Credit Union, being a member also means that you have a team of assistants, advocates, and advisors to help you meet your financial goals, no matter how big or small they may be.
South Carolina Federal members benefit from:
- A wide range of products and services. We offer comprehensive financial solutions, from checking and savings accounts to personal and business loans. We can also connect members with a variety of insurance products via South Carolina Federal Insurance Solutions. Looking for help on your retirement journey? We have resources for that, too!
- Convenient ways to bank. Do you prefer to manage your money on the go? Our Online and Mobile Banking platforms allow you to check balances, make payments, deposit checks, and even monitor your credit report. Prefer to bank in-person? Visit any of our 31 financial centers across the state.
- Financial wellness resources. Our members have access to an online financial wellness program that they can use to brush up on money management basics, learn new strategies for paying off debt, and uncover insights about their personal financial habits.
- Financial safety and soundness. Keeping your money safe and secure is our top priority. We have earned a 5-star rating from Bauer Financial (an independent research firm that ranks the strength of banks and credit unions) for 60 consecutive quarters. Bauer Financial is renowned for its rigorous evaluation of financial institutions; to receive a 5 star-rating, an institution must excel in all areas, demonstrating not only stability but also a forward-thinking approach to financial management.
- Best-in-class service. We pride ourselves on serving our members with kindness, respect, and integrity every day. To ensure we are meeting or exceeding that standard, we solicit feedback from our members via random surveys. Our member experience scores are higher than the banking industry average, and service scores for our Contact Center and financial centers exceed 75% of credit unions nationwide.
As a credit union member, you can rest assured that your membership also supports the communities where you live and work.
We are proud to donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to non-profit organizations across our state every year, and our employees spend thousands of hours volunteering with local charities.
There are plenty of opportunities for South Carolina Federal members to give back, too. We collect canned food items at every shred event we host throughout the year to donate to area food banks, and we host an annual Member Give Day to raise funds for the South Carolina Federal Credit Union Foundation.
I hope that you are as proud as I am to be a member of South Carolina Federal, and that you are taking advantage of all the tools and resources we offer. If you want to learn more about how your credit union membership can support your financial journey, please don't hesitate to visit us in person or give us a call.
