South Carolina Federal Announces New Board Chair

(N. CHARLESTON, S.C.) – April 5, 2011 –
The board of directors of South Carolina Federal Credit Union elected Major Kelvin Brown to serve as Chairman.
Major Kelvin Brown was appointed to South Carolina Federal Credit Union’s Supervisory Committee in 1998 until being appointed to the Board of Directors in 2004. He served as a Volunteer Advisor during his 2007-2008 deployment to Afghanistan and was re-appointed to the Board in April 2008. Brown served as Vice Chairman of the Board from 2009 to 2011 and also served as the Board Secretary.
Brown has served as Chairman of the credit union’s Sales and Marketing Committee and has also served on nearly all other committees, to include: Technology Committee (Member and Security Liaison), Fee Committee, Governance and Nominating Committee and HR/Salary Committee.
Brown currently serves as Commander of the 43rd Civil Support Team, Weapons of Mass Destruction in the South Carolina Army National Guard, located in Columbia. He enlisted as a Combat Medic in the South Carolina Army National Guard in 1984. He served 10 years in the 218th Infantry Brigade as a medic. Brown received a commission as a Second Lieutenant through the South Carolina Palmetto Military Academy in 1994. Throughout his 27-year career in the military, Major Brown has received several awards and decorations including the Bronze Star Medal.
Brown graduated from The Citadel with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He is also a graduate of the Command and General Staff College, Combined Arms Service Staff School and Military Intelligence Officer Advance Course.
Brown currently resides in Columbia with his wife, Carolyn and their daughter, Loren.
