Credit Union Employees Packed 3,600 Bags of Food
(N. CHARLESTON, S.C.) – March 10, 2011 – South Carolina Federal employees packed over 3,600 bags of food throughout the 2010 school year as part of the Lowcountry Food Bank’s BackPack Buddies Program.
"The BackPack Buddies Program is an important way for us to ensure all children have nutritious food to nourish them over the weekends when they’re not in school," said Deb Loesel, Programs Manager, Lowcountry Food Bank. "This program wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for the participating organizations and volunteers."
Nearly 60 South Carolina Federal Credit Union employees were treated to an appreciation luncheon at South Carolina Federal for their volunteer efforts for the Lowcountry Food Bank's BackPack Buddies Program. Students of Pinehurst Elementary School created and signed a card thanking the employees for the bags of healthy snacks.
"Our employees who volunteer their time to support this program are to be commended," said South Carolina Federal Community Relations Director Thetyka Husser. "Their efforts result in underserved children taking home a backpack filled with nutritious snacks for the weekend."
This is the second year South Carolina Federal has participated in the Lowcountry Food Bank’s BackPack Buddies program.
